The Fifth Annual General Meeting of the Keir Hardie Society will take place on Saturday 15th August which fittingly is Keir Hardie’s 159th Birthday.
The meeting will take place in the Netherthird Community Centre, Ryderston Drive, Cumnock, Ayrshire, KA18 3AR from 11am to 1pm with tea and coffee available from 10.30 am onwards.
The Society are delighted to announce that this year’s guest speaker is labour historian, Dr John Callow who will speak on the new edition of Keir Hardie’s classic “From Serfdom to Socialism” which he edited and was sponsored by the GMB.
The book has be re-produced to celebrate the centenary of Hardie’s death, which the society continues to mark throughout 2015.
Copies of the book will be available on the day, or in advance from the Society, c/o GMB Scotland, Fountain House, 1/3 Woodside Crescent, Charing Cross, Glasgow, G3 7UJ at a price of £10 including postage and packaging, payable to “The Keir Hardie Society”.
The AGM will be followed by a visit to the Baird Institute’s Centenary Exhibition, Keir Hardie – A Hundred Years On.
The exhibition uses many of Hardie’s personal belongings and related material drawn from the Institute’s Lochnorris Collection, an gives a great sense of the man, his political philosophy, his family life and his legacy.
The Centenary Exhibition runs until 19th December and is accompanied by a fantastic on-line exhibition.
